What is a BIOS?
The BIOS chip is present in every computer in the market and it is designed to manage the system boot process between the motherboard and the OS when pressing the computer power button “Power button” and the word Bios is an abbreviation for (basic input and output system) and it configures all other parts such as the CPU And GPU graphics card to work together in compatible synchronization.
But in recent years computer manufacturers have cooperated with Microsoft and Intel, and they launched a new chip to manage this process, which is UEFI, which is present in all newly manufactured computers, and it may be in your computer now, as is the case with me as well.
Computers ship with this chip instead of Bios, knowing that they do the same basic purpose to prepare the system to boot to compatible with internal computer parts and components. People call UEFI a BIOS so far due to the great similarity and the user's familiarity with it.
When should the BIOS be updated?
There are times when you do not have to update the BIOS as I mentioned at the beginning of the article and every motherboard uses a specific software version of UEFI or Bios that is the base for it when manufacturing the device, but at the beginning of the release of any new computer, you may notice BIOS updates to fix specific problems.
The updates are for fixing previous problems in the BIOS settings or adding support for new processors and random memories as well, and the only reason that may push you to update the BIOS is if there is a problem already faced with it and you found its solution mentioned in the last update and other than this, I do not advise you to update the BIOS except in the case of support New processors to install.
But watch out!
Some people follow the BIOS updates up-to-date and download and install the latest update from the BIOS without looking at the list of fixes included in the update and may cause damage to the motherboard after the update, as is the case when installing a custom ROM for Android phones, and you should update only when you find benefit From the recent modifications of the company!
Before updating the BIOS, you have to make sure that the version you are installing is the most recent version of your computer now. You can find out the BIOS version by typing the "msinfo" command in the Start menu, and the computer information will appear next to it, with the Bios Version on the right side of the screen.
How to update the BIOS Immediately
Turn on the computer, instructions appear on the screen telling you the button to enter the BIOS settings next to the phrase "press to enter the UEFI BIOS". Click on the dedicated button, then you will enter the settings interface to make the Upgrade for the BIOS.
However, not all motherboards provide the ability to update the BIOS internally from the UEFI control panel before entering the system, and if you do not have this feature, we will go to the official website of your motherboard and then click on Drivers & updates and then search for Bios Update to download the latest BIOS version suitable for your computer.
After downloading the BIOS file, decompress and open the BIOS update tool to install it from within the system, or transfer the file to a flash memory and then enter the UEFI control panel as we mentioned in the previous step before booting the system and choose the last update file to install it, which is a safer step than the EXE file Which can be installed from within Windows.
Very important: Do not shut down the computer during the BIOS update process and make sure that it works until the update is completed, which takes approximately 2-3 minutes.
After completing the update, restart the computer, and the latest BIOS update will work with you easily, and you can confirm the new version through the msinfo system information.
Conclusion
BIOS update is important in the case of new motherboards that have BIOS updates issued to fix some previous problems, but if you are in a good position, there is no need to update the BIOS if the update is not clear or useful to you, or if you do not intend to add a new processor.
